Why did Saint John call Jesus Christ “Logos”? The Greek word “Logos” literally means “word.” But as with many words in greek, “Logos” has also a figurative meaning. Greek philosophers such as Heraclitus and Aristotle,\u00a0 generally viewed the logos as the divine principle that created the world and keeps it into existence. In Greek thought, the Logos is the great mind behind all reason. Philon of Alexandria regarded the Logos as the begotten<\/span>
\n<span;>son of God who governs the creation and is the mediator between creature and creator. Saint John did not mind borrowing the concept of the Logos from Greek thought, but baptised it. I mean he gave it\u00a0 a new meaning so that any Greek reader would recognize that what the philosophers said about the \u201cLogos\u201d as the transcendent being, the creator, was partially inspired by the Holy Spirit, and that The Logos, God the creator, has incarnated and became a man: \u201cIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1: 1, 3, 4, 14)<\/span><\/h2>\n

<span;>Pourquoi Saint Jean a-t-il appel\u00e9 J\u00e9sus-Christ \u00ab Logos \u00bb ? Le mot grec \u00ab Logos \u00bb signifie litt\u00e9ralement \u00ab mot \u00bb. Mais comme beaucoup de mots grecs, \u00ab Logos \u00bb a aussi un sens figur\u00e9. Les philosophes grecs tels qu’H\u00e9raclite et Aristote consid\u00e9raient g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement le logos comme le principe divin qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le monde et le maintient en existence. Dans la pens\u00e9e grecque, le Logos est la grande raison derri\u00e8re toute raison. Philon d’Alexandrie consid\u00e9rait le Logos comme l’enfant engendr\u00e9 fils de Dieu qui gouverne la cr\u00e9ation et est le m\u00e9diateur entre la cr\u00e9ature et le cr\u00e9ateur. Saint Jean n’a pas h\u00e9sit\u00e9 \u00e0 emprunter le concept du Logos \u00e0 la pens\u00e9e grecque, mais il l’a baptis\u00e9. Je veux dire qu’il lui a donn\u00e9 un nouveau sens pour que tout lecteur grec reconnaisse que ce que les philosophes ont dit \u00e0 propos du “Logos” en tant qu’\u00eatre transcendant, le cr\u00e9ateur, a \u00e9t\u00e9 partiellement inspir\u00e9 par le Saint-Esprit, et que le Logos, Dieu le cr\u00e9ateur, s’est incarn\u00e9 et est devenu un homme : “Au commencement \u00e9tait la Parole, et la Parole \u00e9tait avec Dieu, et la Parole \u00e9tait Dieu. Toutes choses ont \u00e9t\u00e9 faites par Lui, et sans Lui rien de ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 fait.
